Oakhill Veterinary Centre describes itself as an independent, multi‑disciplinary practice that has been caring for pets, farm animals and equines since 1974, and is RCVS accredited. Reviews suggest it’s set up for long-term routine care and surgical procedures, with multiple owners mentioning follow-up phone calls after treatment and detailed explanations from vets. Recent feedback is mixed: alongside many long-standing clients praising communication and support (including end‑of‑life care), a small number of reviewers describe serious concerns around handling/stress during exams and price clarity for vaccinations.

Extremely Disappointed with the Care and Treatment at Oakhill vet. I cannot express how disappointed I am with the care my pug has received at this clinic. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating and upsetting, and unfortunately, I feel my dog’s health has been neglected in the process. I initially took my pug in because I noticed a swollen back end, and I was concerned it might be a prolapse. The vet first diagnosed it as polyps, but didn't provide any treatment, not even basic antibiotics. Just put her fingers up her rectum and vagina. I returned for a second time as I was still concerned and noticed a small pink lump, only to be given minimal attention or help. They put their fingers up her once again. I was given antibiotics I took my dog back once more and was told they needed to take her away to see a surgeon. I wanted to go with her, as she gets extremely stressed when separated from me. But they refused, and said the surgeon may be operating. (Why take my dog to see a surgeon performing an op?) and on top of that, they went ahead and stuck their fingers inside her again. When my dog returned, she was clearly upset and agitated. I pointed this out to the vet, only for them to dismiss it, saying it was just her breathing issues, not stress. The vet seemed to completely disregard my concern for my dog’s emotional well-being. The vet then expressed their concerns about her diet (she’s on a grain-free, high-quality chicken-based diet), the vet scoffed at it and told me I was feeding her all wrong diet, going on about what “cavemen” used to feed dogs. The lack of respect for me as a pet owner was infuriating. Things got worse when they told me she needed surgery and also recommended spaying her at the same time after she lost weight. They even said it was “the luck of the draw” whether she would survive the surgery, given her breathing problems. It was one of the most heartless things I’ve ever heard. I wasn’t given proper care or compassion for my dog’s needs, and I was made to feel like I was bothering them with my concerns. Now, my poor pug has a huge prolapse that has come out (due to fingers being stuck up her multiple times it worsened) and the clinic’s response? They told me to go buy some lubricant to apply to her myself. The fact that they couldn’t even provide this basic care is completely unacceptable. If they had done their job right from the beginning, we wouldn’t be in this situation now. I will never be returning to this clinic again. I’m heartbroken over how my dog was treated, and I would not recommend them to anyone who cares about their pet’s health and well-being. I want to escalate this further.

We’ve been attending Oakhill, formerly Abbey Veterinary on and off (mainly on 😊) for over 25 years. We always try to see Giles, Helen, or Judith. The reception staff are so lovely and always do their best to accommodate! Communication is excellent. Giles even came outside to see our German Shepherd for his ear problem. …If only there was a way to clone Helen, Giles and Judith… 🤔🤔 Truly professional and caring. What a relief to have the privilege of attending this practice. PS.. If Giles disappears, we’ve Kidnapped him. 👀🥰

Awful vets! I rang earlier today confirming the price of the yearly booster jab for my one year old cat, who has had all of his previous vaccinations here and is an indoor cat. I was told over the phone it would cost £45.13 for an indoor cat’s booster jab and for a cat that goes outdoors it would be £67.52 The reception staff have always been strange not giving an accurate price that’s why I rang to confirm. After my cat had received the jab and I went to pay and I was told it’s £67.52 !?! I was explaining that I had already been told a price which was the £45.13 for an indoor cats booster and that £67.52 is a stupidly expensive price! The reception staff are just weird and couldn’t even show me the price list they was looking down at? And just told me no that’s the price I don’t know who you spoke to earlier on. I have either been robbed £20 or my cat has been given the wrong booster jab, even though I had talked to the vet nurse in the room so she knew he was an indoor cat ! I will not be bringing my cat here again.

We have been with Oakhill for over 25 years and the last 13 with our beloved George. Recently in his older years we visit more frequently most recently to have a benign tumour removed from his mouth. I cannot thank everyone concerned enough for the amazing care shown to him and to us. From the explanation given by the amazing veterinary surgeon, the empathy shown by everyone we came across to the follow up telephone calls we received to ensure George was okay. Thank you Oakhill from the bottom of my heart.

I am very grateful for the treatment of my cat Ramzes. All the people working there are very polite🙂, smiling, friendly and above all professional😊. I would like to thank the entire team for the treatment of my cat. I was very positively surprised by the phone call in the morning asking how my cat was feeling. I have never encountered anything like this before. I highly recommend this clinic, if I could give 10 stars I would without hesitation. Thank you again very much, love you guys❤️❤️❤️

We had to have our precious dog Daisy put to sleep yesterday as she had a tumour in her bladder. All the staff we had dealings with were lovely with us.and were straight with us about her prognosis The vet Steph was amazing she was very caring and knew how hard we were finding it. She gave us privacy and time to say our goodbyes. We can’t thank her enough. Thank you so much Linda Bill & Ann
